Sherman Alvin Joiner

Sherman Alvin Joiner passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 5:22 PM from Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born in Independence, LA. He later moved to Gretna, LA and then to Barataria, LA where he was able to enjoy fishing and peaceful living on the Barataria Bay. He was 68 years of age. Beloved husband and best friend of 49 years to Ann Morreale Joiner. Devoted father of Angela Lynne Joiner (Lukie) and Paul Michael Joiner (Christy). Grandfather of Brittany Autin Adams (Shaun) and Christian Hunter Fortino. Also survived by brothers, William Michael Wills (Bonnye), Dickie Penn, Tommy Joiner. Sisters Dorothy Joiner Clark (Jerry), Millie Joiner, Stella Joiner West (Joe) and Toni Joiner Robicheaux. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Alvin Joiner and Rebecca Dunaway, brother Ray Anthony (Tony) Wills and sister Shirley Joiner Lopinto. He was an Alumnus of West Jefferson High School and graduated in 1960. During the early 60’s he served in the United States Air Force and then served in the Air Force Reserves. He was a brick mason at Kaiser Aluminum of Chalmette, LA for 25 years. He was a LA State Licensed Contractor of residential and commercial construction, building custom homes in the Westbank area for many years. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, member of the William D. White Lodge #408 in Gretna, a 33rd Degree Mason, member of the Jerusalem Temple Shriners of New Orleans, and the Jerusalem Temple Roadrunners. His personality drew many friends and he never met a stranger. He will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved him. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Saturday, October 15, 2011 from 10:30 until Funeral Service time at 2 PM.
