Spencer Schayot

Spencer Charles Schayot, 72, passed away on July 8 after his courageous battle with a Glioblastoma. Spencer is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Mary S. Schayot; beloved Daughters, Lauren Gambel (Ryan) and Lindsey Fernandez (Ugo); precious granddaughter Avery Grace Gambel, devoted niece Erin Schayot, sister Janice Bellaci (Robert), brothers, Brian Schayot (Barbara), Stuart Schayot (Sherry) and Chris Schayot, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Spencer was proceeded in death by his parents Emile Jr. and Clarisse Schayot.

Spencer attended St. Aloysius High School and graduated in 1970 among the first graduating class of what is known now as Brother Martin High School. He then graduated from the University of New Orleans where he was a proud member of the PKT Fraternity.

He was a longtime member of the Tulane Greenbackers and an avid supporter of all Tulane Athletics.

Spencer retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years and the State of LA Workforce Commission after 10 years. 

He fought his brain cancer with courage and a positive attitude. The family is extremely grateful for the many prayer warriors that provided hope and strength. A special thanks to devoted friends Karen and David Scariano who spent the last year taking care of Spencer and the family; his Touro therapists Anna and Sally who never gave up on him, his caregivers Jill Matthews and Phalon Cornist, who he loved and could not have managed without, along with Tammy and Serenity Hospice for their loving care. We also want to thank the many other medical professionals who have been along side of us for this journey. Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services wearing Tulane's Green and Blue colored attire. 

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 105 Bonnabel Blvd Metairie, LA 70005 from 10:00AM to 12PM followed by a Mass at 12PM. There will be a private interment at Hope Mausoleum immediately following mass.
