Vera Barrilleaux Schexnayder

Vera Barrilleaux Schexnayder, received her wings and entered into eternal life on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Arthur C. Schexnayder Sr.; grandson, Peter Schexnayder; daughter-in-law, Tricia J. Schexnayder; parents, Willie and Lucille Barrilleaux. She is loving mother of Susan S. Roddy (Allen), Arthur C. Schexnayder Jr. (Donna), Brian W. Schexnayder (Cheryl), Steven A. Schexnayder, and Barry J. Schexnayder. She is devoted grandmother of Alicia Drake (Michael), Mark DiGiovanni (Patty), Selena Rice (Michael), Chad Schexnayder (Dayna), Jaime Lyn Abadie (Brad), Patrick Schexnayder, Bailey Schexnayder, Casey Schexnayder, Jeremy Schexnayder, April Schexnayder, Al Roddy, Richard Roddy and Brian Roddy. She is great grandmother of 9 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews other family and friends. Vera will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She was an active parishioner of St. Anthony Parish, serving as a Minister of Communion, Lector and a member of the St. Anthony Altar Society. She was past president of Sultana of Alhambra, Darro Caravan No. 29 and the Archbishop Blenk Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxillary and the first PTA president of Archbishop Blenk High School Parents Club. She was honored with the Order of St. Louis Medal from the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday, November 25, 2017 beginning at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 924 Monroe Street (Corner of Franklin and Burmaster Streets), Gretna, LA. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to St. Anthony Catholic Church or the American Heart association. Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA in charge of arrangements.
