Vincent “Emery” Cox, Jr., of Gretna, LA, passed away at Ochsner on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the age of 79 years old. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sylvia Gauthreaux Cox; children Vincent Emery Cox, III and wife Shari, Darren Paul Cox, and Rudy James Cox and wife Blake; grandchildren Troy Vincent Cox and wife Tori, Emily Cox Callegan and husband Jeremy, Koty Trent Cox, Catherine Elise Cox, and Chloe Elizabeth Cox; great-grandchildren, Jackson Cox, Kellan Callegan, Luke Cox and Carson Callegan; sister, Hilda Cox deVerges of Tulsa Oklahoma; stepbrother, Don McCloskey. Born October 20, 1934 in McDonoghville, LA. Preceded in death by his father Vincent Emery Cox, mother Hilda Hauffe Cox McCloskey, and stepfather Charles McCloskey; stepbrothers, Kendall McCloskey and Dick McCloskey; cousins, Dorothy Strauss Borne and Pearl Hauffe Vering. Graduate of Holy Name of Mary High School, New Orleans, LA, 1952. Active Navy service from 1953 with honorable discharge in 1957. Veteran of the Korean War.US Air Force Reserve 1959-1968. Served in the Jefferson Parish Police Department, 1968-1978 and the Gretna Police Department 1978-2002, retired Captain, and as Gretna Clerk of Court, 2002-2007. Member of St. Cletus Knights of Columbus 8615; VFW Post 3121; Fraternal Order of Police; Louisiana Peace Officers Association; Gretna Police Benevolent Society; Gretna Sportsman Club; and German Heritage Club. He was an avid collector of antiques who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass at St. Cletus Church, 3600 Claire Ave, Gretna, LA on May 17, 2014. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with the funeral Mass following at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in McDonoghville Cemetery, Gretna, LA. All family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Jerome Hall of St. Cletus Church following burial. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and St. Cletus Church are preferred. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA in charge of arrangements.
