Violet Mitchell McGowan

Violet Mitchell McGowan passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024 at the age of 97. Beloved wife of the late James F. McGowan. Loving mother of Lynn Rougeau (John), Wendy Allen (Charles), and the late Patrick McGowan (Tanya). Grandmother of Sean McGowan, Brian McGowan, Heather Allen, and Charles Allen IV. Great-grandmother of Juliette, Caroline, and Samantha McGowan. Sister of the late Marjorie Damitz (the late Clyde), and William Mitchell. Daughter of the late William Norman Mitchell and Violet Stevens Mitchell. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends. 

Violet worked with the Ford Merchandising School. In her later years, she was active with the Walnut Bend Garden Club, Westside Christian Church in Algiers, the Church Choir, Sweet Adelines, DAV Auxiliary, Salvation Army (New Orleans), the Louisiana Tourist Commission, and Krewe of Cleopatra. She enjoyed working with people from every walk of life and never met a stranger. She will be sadly missed.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette Street in Algiers, LA on Monday, October 14, 2024 from 9 AM to 11 AM. A Prayer Service will follow. Interment All Saints Mausoleum (inside Metairie Cemetery).
