Walter “Romeo” Griffen, Jr. passed away on February 27, 2013 at the age of 87 years. Beloved husband of the late Margie Gervais Griffen. Father of Terry Schule (Charles) and Barry Griffen (Allison). Grandfather of Stacey Boheman (James) and Christopher Schule (Amanda). Great-grandfather of Cole Edward Boheman, Victoria Dolese, Isabelle and Gabrielle Jackson. Brother of Vivian Cortez, Cleora Garst, the late Mabel Zeringue, Edwin “Pete” Griffen, Delphine Ledet and Arthur Griffen. Son of the late Antoinette Tassin Griffen and Walter Griffen, Sr. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He spent much of his life as a mechanic, working for Leson Chevrolet, operated his own shop, Griffen Auto Repairs and later retired from McDermott. He was a life member of the Westwego Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, protecting the community for 57 years. Romeo was also a member of V.F.W. Post No. 6793, American Legion Post No. 206, A.A.R.P. Chapter No. 5037, Westwego Historical Society and Westwego Senior Center, where he would call Bingo. An avid Saints and L.S.U. fan, he loved to fish and spend time with his family. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Westwego on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 11 AM. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery. Visitation will take place at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Sunday from 6 PM to 10 PM, resuming on Monday from 8 AM to 10:30 AM.
