Walter J. Roux, a lifelong resident of Algiers, LA passed away at Jo Ellen Smith Living Center on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the age of 88. Son of the late George P. Roux and Ezelda Duplantis Roux. Walter was the beloved husband of Beverly Brechtel Roux for 56 years. Father of Darleen R. Aucoin (Elton). Grandfather of Cheri Aucoin and Craig Aucoin (Keri). Brother-in-law of Sylvia North (Frank West). Uncle and Godfather of David North (Karen) and Michael North (Kim). Walter graduated from Martin Behrman High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific with the Seabees, arriving in Japan soon after the bombs were dropped. He spent 4 years active and 8 years in the reserves. He joined the Knights of Columbus on his return from the Navy. He had the honor of being the oldest living Past Grand Knight of Council 1905-Gretna and the oldest member having served 67 years in the Knights of Columbus Council 1905. He was the oldest living past Faithful Navigator of T.J. Larkin Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus No. 322. Walter was a true Knights of Columbus having dedicated 67 years to the greatest Catholic Men’s Fraternal Organization. Thanks to my brother Knights for their love and friendship. He retired from Oak Tree Savings and Loan Co. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Jo Ellen Smith Living Center for their wonderful care and support and Heart of Hospice for their care during his last days. Family and friends, also members of Knights of Columbus Council 1905-Gretna, T.J. Larkin Assembly No. 322, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and Archbishop Blenk Ladies Auxiliary are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 6PM until 10PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 8AM until 10:30AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Burmaster and Franklin Streets, Gretna, LA on Monday at 11AM. Interment will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
