Warren Martin "Jiggs" Forrest

February 3, 1925 — October 26, 2015

Warren Martin "Jiggs" Forrest was born February 3, 1925 and passed away on October 26, 2015 at the age of 90 years. He was a native and lifetime resident of Algiers, La. Son of the late Walter Forrest and the late Archangel Gaudin Forrest Zurrunsky.
Beloved husband of 62 years to the late Elma Maniscalco Forrest and cherished father to his only child Penelope "Penny" Forrest. Proud master to his collies Brees and Shady. Preceded in death by his brother Walter Forrest and sister Alma Forrest Stockton. Survived by several nieces, nephews and many close friends. Jiggs was a decorated Army veteran of World War 2 serving in the European Theatre under Gen. George Patton. Upon discharge, he joined the New Orleans police force and the National Guard. After retiring from the N.O.P.D., he worked as a civilian for the Army Reserve. When he was in his 50's his position was absorbed into the regular Army and he started wearing a uniform again and retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. Mother and daddy traveled the country in motor homes that got progressively bigger with the years. They also enjoyed traveling to Europe and Hawaii . For years every Mardi Gras was a party at their R.V. parked on St Charles Avenue. He was an active member of the American Legion, VFW, Kiwanis Club and a charter member of the World War Two Museum. Mother and daddy were Saints season ticket holders and for years went to every home game. They also tailgated at many Tiger football games over the years. In his later years daddy liked nothing better than to get in the car, take a ride, and stop for a bite at a favorite restaurant. He was always ready to flirt with a cute waitress and they always spoiled him. He lived a long and happy life and will be sorely missed. Very special thanks to Dr. David Hutchinson for his care over the years and to the ICU nurses Lynn and Rebecca and all the staff at West Jefferson Medical Center for their compassionate care of my father during this illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association is preferred ( www.heart.org ). A Celebration of his Life will take place at a later date. Burial will be private.
