Wayne Anthony Bernard Sr. was born on November 14th, 1946. Son of the late Wilton Joseph Bernard Sr. and Mildred LeBoeuf Bernard. Loving husband to Lelia Robichaux Bernard for 26 years. Brother to the late Wilton Joseph Bernard Jr., Patricia Bernard Martinez, Linda Bernard Giaise (Joseph), and Pamela Bernard Gay (John). Father to Wayne Anthony Bernard Jr (Dawn), Wade Paul Bernard (Michelle) and Shannon Bernard Powell (Donald). Step father to Dawn Gray Bernard (Wayne) and Dana Gray Clements (Lonnie). Grandfather to Paul Bernard (Tasha), Katelyn Bernard Wilson (Marcus), Shane Allen Bernard, Caleb Shelby Bernard (Lauren), Anthony Powell and Susan Marie Powell. Step Grandfather to Dustin Holt, Chance Gray, Sidney Holt 5th and Blaze Smith. Proud Great Grandfather to seven lovely children with the opportunity for more to come.

Wayne battled four bouts of cancer since 2010. He kept up his spirits and enjoyed life, family and good friends. Wayne was a lifelong resident of the Westbank. Born on Ames Blvd. next to the old incinerator. Lived briefly in Harvey before his family moved to Crown Point. Wayne was a Fisher Gator and a West Jefferson Buccaneer. Joined the Navy in 1965 and served 4 years mostly in Japan and Southeast Asia. After his Military time Wayne took his knowledge of Hydraulics he learned on Aircraft to the Marine Industry. He lived and worked a life he loved. He will always be remembered & revered by Boat Captain’s all over the World as being the “Power Steering Man”.

After retirement Wayne spent his time enjoying his life with his wife Lelia and his love for dancing and getting together with family & friends. He was especially fond of the time they spent with the Jefferson Parish Golden Age, Harvey Group, and the Back to the 50’s Jamaica Dance Club.

Wayne never met a stranger and was a stranger to no one once he knew you.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The funeral Mass will start at 11:00 am with interment to immediately follow at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave, Gretna, LA.
