Winnie Plaisance Melford Breaux

Winnie Plaisance Melford Breaux passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Wisner Breaux by second marriage. Mother of Daniel Melford Jr. (Debbie), Harry Melford (Pamela), Sherrie Martinez (the late Edwin), the late Jeffrey Melford (Tina), Blaine Melford, Elaine Doucet, Paula Melford, and Pamela Melford. Grandmother of Travis (Sandra), Jessica (Jason), Joshua (Shannon), Natalie (Mario), Eddie, Malory (Michael), Daina (Jonathan), Nicole (Chad), Alex, Hannah, Alicia (Vincent), the late Maria and Melodie. Great-grandmother of Shelby, Shea, Vivian, Caleb, Caroline, Corynne, Antonio, Holden, Tristan, Noah, Savannah, Chloe, Kye, and Chad Jr. Sister of Loyce Palermo (the late Jimmy), the late Harris Plaisance, Valture Plaisance Jr., Hazel Plaisance, Mercy Sarah, Velma Gros, Mary Rudolph, and Joyce Guidry. Daughter of the late Valture Plaisance and Melodia Cheramie Plaisance. Also survived by other loving relatives and friends.

Winnie was a bus driver (#367) for Jefferson Parish School Board and retired after 11 years of service. She earned her AA from Delgado College in Criminal Justice. She graduated from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Correctional Academy and worked in the Correctional Division until 1993 when she retired after 12 years of service. She was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Westwego where she was a Servite, a member of Beautification Society for O.L.P.S. Church, was on the committee for the St. Joseph Altar, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW 6793. She touched so many lives during her years that while her passing is sorrowful, her life and legacy will be celebrated.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Westwego on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 10 AM to 1 PM. A Funeral Mass will follow. Interment Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
