People know about cremation, but they may not know what the entire process includes. What goes into a cremation? Is it as expensive as a traditional funeral?

More people are starting to consider cremation as a serious burial option for their loved ones. There was a time when cremation was a fringe option when it came to burial. It was something that people did, but it was never something that was considered over a traditional funeral. More than ever, that is starting to change. With the price and ease that cremation can offer families who are planning funerals, it shouldn’t be a surprise that more and more people are willing to take that route. And there is nothing wrong with that. Cremation is much different from a traditional funeral, but that doesn’t make it any less important. If you and your family are interested in learning more about cremation and all that goes into it, you can contact funeral homes in Marrero, LA. They would love to help you with any questions that you may have.

What Is Cremation?

Cremation is the act of incinerating the body of the deceased. Cremation has been around for centuries and has been used for many different reasons. Even though many people are aware of how cremation works in the larger sense, they aren’t all that sure of the steps that go into it. There is a lot of work that must be done before and after a body is cremated. It is important that any family thinking of choosing cremation is aware of what is going to happen to the body of their loved one.

Steps of the Cremation Process:

IDing Body – As with any death, there is paperwork that must be filed before any steps can be taken with the body. Before the process of cremating your loved one continues, some things must be verified for legal purposes. These things that must be verified can differ by state and where you are choosing to have your loved one’s body taken.

Preparing Body for Cremation – The body must be prepared before it is cremated. This can include embalming, but that is only if you are planning on having a funeral before cremating your loved one. More often than not, this is not needed. So, the body will be washed and dressed in the clothes that you have picked out. Jewelry is returned to you, and medical devices are removed.

Cremation Chamber – The body is then put into the container you have chosen. It could be a coffin, a cardboard box, or whatever you have planned to have them cremated in. Once that is done, they are put into the cremation chamber. These chambers can exceed 1000 degrees in temperature.

Clean Up/ Urn – When the body is done, the ashes of your loved one are collected. Any metal devices are removed and recycled, and the ashes are then put into the urn that you have selected for your loved one.

Cremation is a wonderful choice for any family. If you need more help, you can contact funeral homes in Marrero, LA. They would love to help you with everything that you need.
